The name “Shirankai” is named by the president of Kyoto Imperial University, Dr. Kinoshita In Japanese language “kai” means the organization and the word Shiran originally came from the ancient Chinese literature of Confucian (551 BCE - 479 BCE) who was said to be one of the greatest philosopher and his teaching made the base for Legalism, Taoism and Confucianism. “Shiran” is mentioned in his “Koshi-Kego” (孔子家語) as rare and valuable herbal medicine that has significant effect for health and cure. The alumni organization is named as “Shirankai” so that all the doctors in this organization would cure and contribute to people’s health as “Shiran” herb.
